HDFC ERGO faced manual, effort-intensive policy and claims processes that slowed operations across multiple lines of business including health, fire, and motor insurance. Fragmented data and disparate systems made it difficult to access accurate information and generate reliable reports. The company needed to overhaul legacy core systems to remain competitive in India's rapidly digitizing insurance market.
HDFC ERGO deployed Duck Creek OnDemand, a cloud-native SaaS platform, along with AI-enabled real-time policy issuance and AI-driven risk assessment tools. A centralized Coverage Factory model unified the tech stack across lines of business, with product-agnostic rules and a centralized rating engine automating policy issuance and claims management. API infrastructure enabled real-time data synchronization across 15+ systems, while AI models were integrated for fraud detection, image recognition in claims, and analysis of medical bills, discharge summaries, and vehicle damage images.
Product launch cycles were streamlined from several months to just four weeks, setting a new benchmark in Indian insurance. Claims adjudication became faster, risk assessments more accurate, and rule and rate changes quicker. Agent productivity and customer satisfaction increased, and productivity improved significantly across multiple departments.
